ACCIDENT COMPENSATION CORPORATION (ACC)

In New Zealand, the Accident Compensation Corporation makes substantial contributions towards professional counselling to victims and survivors of sexual abuse and neglect who have an accepted claim.

To qualify, the abuse or assault must have occurred within New Zealand.  However, if a NZ citizen or permanent resident is travelling overseas when the sexual abuse or assault occurs, they may also be covered.

ACC provide information on local ‘registered counsellors’ who can provide an assessment to see if the person qualifies for cover by ACC.  GPs (family doctors) can also complete the application form that will trigger an assessment by an ACC counsellor.

Once the claim is accepted, ACC provides a range of support services including counselling.

ACC can be contacted on 0800 735 566 or http://www.acc.co.nz/
